Drawing on techno, electronica, neo-classical and post-rock influences, Sunda Arc compose and perform using both electronic and acoustic instruments, including analogue synthesisers, home-made software patches, piano, saxophones and bass clarinet - all finessed and channelled through their own unique creative strategies. Written almost as a conversation with his teenage self, it follows the triumphant solo debut that was 2020’s The View From Halfway Down. I remember looking for this album on record for the longest time, and when I finally found it I was very excited.

At first I thought this was a very noisy record, but then I realized that it was just static noise, so I had to wet clean it before playing for the first time, and after that all the noise went away. I'll still give it 5/5 stars because of the sound quality which is very nice and dynamic, but I absolute hate when records come without an anti-static sleeve. This album features hit tracks like "Slow Hands" and "This Town," showcasing Horan's exceptional vocal range and songwriting talent. The album was preceded by three chart topping singles, “This Town”, “Slow Hands” and “Too Much to Ask”. Flicker is more than just an album, it's a journey through Horan's unique blend of folk-inspired pop and rock.Horan mentions how “Flicker” is a very important album for him and is something that he “worked tirelessly on” for the past year and a half. Horan told Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 Radio show that the album's title track, "Flicker", means the most to him and "was a very poignant moment in the recording process", to the extent that "it changed the way I recorded the rest of the album". Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands.

It’s a breathtaking array and makes it even more abundantly clear that Andy has entered a purple patch in his songwriting, hitting a new velocity in contrast to his initial inhibitions about becoming a solo artist. Essentially it advises us to stop worrying about the future and enjoy each day as it comes, embracing the crushing, unpredictable lows of life as much as the almighty highs of being in love. I love the album and am making some deep grooves in Way of the World, Riverside, Sidewinder and This is Our Year.Reflecting the austere, industrial backdrop of their home city of Malmö, the trio have soaked up influences of dub, kosmische and world music on ‘Flicker’ and subjugate them to their dream pop aesthetic. I have only played this once, but I remember being a little let down with the lack luster sound quality.
