About this deal

However, Christine just pulls this dress off a rack in the opera house, so it's unclear if it's a costume owned by the opera or her own garment. During "Wishing" and "Wandering Child," Christine wears a black dress with a plunging neckline with lace details. Both romantic and scary, The Phantom of the Opera is a thrilling night of theater with grand emotions. I could give you the short version - and my interpretation of them (which might not be identical to other interpretations of it). When we first meet Christine, she is wearing a slave girl costume during the dress rehearsal for the newest opera, Hannibal.

She wears it when at the Manager’s office when learning the Phantom wants her to play the lead in his opera, and she wears it to the graveyard when visiting her father’s grave. And/or perhaps that is how I feel about playing Christine…my not-so-sassy/sensual faces in these pictures indicate that I wasn’t in character yet…). It's her only costumes that reflects her as person and not a character she is playing or a costume to has to wear. This sequence itself differs noticeably between the stage show and the film, and the costumes are very different as well.It would have made more sense to either have her go down to the Phantom's lair in her "Think of Me" dress or have her change into a dress for dinner. Had there been some context for the costume design in the film, it could have worked; it's a beautiful costume. Slaves could be the most beloved girlfriend, the family’s accountant, the head masters of schools, the best chef in town, the most sought after doctor, the superstar gladiator.

I love these looks because they evoke comedic Mozart operas, which is actually how I got my start—I was contacted by a NY agent after my (small) role of Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro at Yale Opera my senior year of college.I have a soft spot for the stage version, but the movie costume grows on me more every time I see it.

This dress is the first (and only) personal Victorian dress we see Christine wear in the whole show. The bodice is decorated with hundreds of beads in curved and pointed shapes echoing that of the tabs. There are no obvious sources for this dress - which I love - but some plausible ones can be seen here. Well first off I decided I needed to grow my hair out, so I could slick it back and really pull off the Phantom look, lucky for me I have dark hair. In the stage show, there are diagonal ruffles on the skirt, and there's an overlay draped at an angle in the movie.

I love the movie costumes the best cuz they scream "creative" and they also catch the idea of the true story.

Either way, the dress lacks the fine details of its stage counterpart and looks like a stab of black on screen. A lovely recreation of one of Sarah’s iconic Christine Daae costumes from the original production of ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ by Sasha de Chagny. Also, this is one of two costumes I actually get to put on in my dressing room (hence the good lighting)—all of the others are quick changes. Plus, Carlotta explicitly says about the Elissa dress "Because I have not my costume for Act 3 because somebody not finish it! It fits me perfectly {the bodice looks a little loose but that’s because I can’t lace it properly myself 😅} but it’s a perfect fit.The Rooftop cape is beautiful and romantic (picture taken under stage as I’m about to run up the stairs—notice wonderful dresser Emily Fox behind me) and The Countess has pink hair (my only wig change in the show—Leonators will notice the arm of Christine-wig-man-extraordinaire Leone Gagliardi in this pic)!
