About this deal

Remember that a washer dryer is a more complicated bit of machinery than a dedicated washer or dryer – and, if it does break down, both washing and drying will be out of the question until you get it fixed.

Boasting a highly respectable D energy rating with an A for the wash-only cycles, it’s worth upping your budget for this mid-priced washer dryer from Haier, since it will cost less to run over time.Despite the large drum, drying capacity is 6kg, which is about as big as it gets for washer-dryers; if you want to dry significantly more washing, you’re better off buying a standalone tumble dryer. Whether you regularly find yourself scrubbing away at grass and mud stains that haven't vanished in the wash, or you’ve decided it’s time to invest in a more energy efficient model, there’s a lot to consider when buying a replacement appliance.

Not always. The big issue is drum capacity: typically, a washer dryer will have a lower capacity for drying than for washing. For example, a machine might have a washing capacity of 9kg, but a drying capacity of only 6kg. This means that you can’t wash and dry a full 9kg of laundry in one go. You will have to divide it into two smaller loads – or wash it all, then hang some of the clothes to dry elsewhere while the rest goes through the drying process. All washing machines should offer the same standard programs, but some brands will include extra cycles for specific washes. When choosing a program, keep in mind the recommended temperatures and spin speeds for your different fabrics. Here are what some of the most common washes do: The Hisense DHGA901NL doesn’t stray too far from other tumble dryers in the design stakes. There’s a large porthole at the front that opens up 180 degrees to get washing in. There’s plenty of space in the drum, even for larger items such as bedding, and it will happily take up to 9kg of wet washing.

If you are interested in buying the Hisense WDQY1014EVJM 10kg washer dryer, make sure you don’t pay over the odds. Offering the best of both washing and drying, but taking up just a single space in your kitchen, Hisense’s WDBL1014V is an A energy rated 10kg washer and a 7kg dryer all in one. The 7kg figure for drying is a wet load, so about 5kg dry – which is around half the maximum wash capacity. However, there’s a price to pay for using the tumble dryer function in terms of both time and energy. This full load took 10 minutes shy of four hours to dry and used a whopping 3.75kWh of electricity. Modern 7kg heat-pump dryers would use half to a third of that energy for the same load. Automatic dosing: This feature works out how much detergent you need for each wash. Simply fill the reservoir and the machine will release the right dose each time.

Wash noise was also suitably hushed thanks to a combination of the quiet motor and the double-skin door adding an amount of sound insulation. The machine burbled along most of the wash cycle in the low 50s decibels, but did have a couple of louder moments when the water was running in and the pump was pumping out. It then measured bang on the energy label figure of 56dB, which is still reasonably quiet. Washing machines are more effective and energy efficient when full, so it's worth thinking about how much washing you'll be doing at one time. Drum capacities range from 3kg up to 12kg, with the weight referring to the dry clothes that can fit inside the drum. There’s also a secondary filter for the heat pump, accessed through the door at the bottom. This has to be cleaned at least every five cycles. There are warning lights to indicate when it’s time to empty both the tank and to clean the filters. Starting with the standard Cotton cycle set at 40ºC, we attempted to wrestle in 8kg of dry cotton clothing and failed. We removed 1kg for a more manageable 7kg load that did fit into the drum. In went our key test stain strip featuring blobs of blood, coffee, turmeric, cranberry jam, ketchup and engine oil. These were allowed to really dry out and stain the strip for 24 hours prior to the wash. We used a leading brand, non-bio capsule and placed this into the drum.Another important factor to consider is longevity. When you buy a high-quality HISENSE QA Series WDQA9014EVJM 9 kg Washer Dryer, you’re making an investment that is likely to last longer. Cheaper products may seem like a good deal at the time, but they are often made with lower-quality materials and are not designed to last as long. This means that you may end up having to replace your device sooner, which can end up costing you more in the long run. Key specs – Style: Freestanding; Capacity: Wash 10kg, dry 6kg; Dryer type: Condenser; Max spin speed: 1,400rpm; Rated efficiency: D Some top-of-the-range models can spin up to 1,800rpm on a cotton program, but faster spin speeds can be costlier and are usually noisier too.
