It may come as a surprise to many of you that I used to read so many of these books it was almost exhausting. I got to the point where it became mundane, meaningless, and I felt like I was trapped in a pretty bad book funk. And I was-that’s the problem. We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it? Although Punk 57 is not everyone’s cup of tea, those who love it might be looking for some other books like Punk 57 that take dark romance to new levels. The story of Pun 57 follows Misha Lare and Ryen Trevarrow. The two of them reside a mere town away, though they have yet to have met each other. As it so happened, when they were both in their fifth grade, they were paired up by manner of a misunderstanding – always a healthy way to begin a friendship. Bit of a Mess So, I figured I should start with the good part before starting absolutely bashing a book. Before I started, I thought about myself: “focus, Isadora, you must have seen SOMETHING good at least.” So, I came up with this list, and I’ll analyze it topic by topic:

This is the start of a pen-pal relationship that has both parties completely opening up. The only thing is Lily has no idea who she’s communicating with. You see, there’s a girl at school. You know the kind. Cheerleader, popular, gets everything she wants… I hate to admit this, especially to you, but a long time ago I wanted to be her.But, as they grow older, they become each other’s crutch. They begin to secretly (or not so secretly?) fall for one another, having been each other’s sounding board for so long. And as they begin to near the end of High School, something happens that will irrevocably change their lives…even if only one of them knows about it. And, after all these years, they both finally want to see what the other is like in real life… but what if it changes everything? Do you think Amelia and Justin can mend fences and rekindle their love? Or will his new girlfriend stand in their way? As the story progresses, Ryen learns more about Masen’s past, particularly about his sister, Annie. This revelation adds depth to their relationship, as Ryen realizes the weight of the secrets Masen has been carrying. And, because of this problem, I really don’t let myself indulge in the finer trashy books in life. I don’t normally miss them, either, if I’m being honest. But there comes a time when you’re just in the mood for something hot, angsty, and completely antagonistic you’d go so far as to search into your old roots. And, it just so happens, I have a friend who knows me about as well as anyone….and she specializes in smut, the little tart.

There were a lot of moving pieces, some we knew that Ryen didn’t know and others we didn’t know until Penelope artfully exposed them to us at the perfect time. Once these secrets were exposed, I was speechless. This deal was supposed to have no strings attached, but the two have more in common than they thought. She shifts her stance and I see her chest rise with a heavy breath, looking like she’s waiting for me to say something. When I don’t, she lets out a sigh and looks down at her card. “I also need a picture of eating something Lady & The Tramp style with someone,” she suggests instead. And here you thought that Ryen and Misha were bad. Wait till you hear about Tyler (is it Tyler? I forgot now. Yes. He’s this insignificant) and Lyla. Did you enjoy Penelope Douglas’s writing in Punk 57? If so, you should read another one of her books that couldn’t put down – Birthday Girl.And there’s this poor emo kid, Manny, who doesn’t say one word. He’s there just to be bullied by Trey, Lyla, and, of course, Ryen. He’s a character who has no life of his own, he was invented just to serve the purpose of being bullied by these stupid kids. I was SO hoping that there would be a plot twist where Manny went there and killed all of them, making this book at least a little interesting. Punk 57 Book Review Questions and Answers: Sneaking into his family home, Masen overhears his father expressing regret about their strained relationship. The pain of losing Annie is palpable, and Masen’s guilt over not being there for his family intensifies. When she meets the confident athlete Garrett, he proposes a deal she can’t ignore. If Hannah helps Garret improve his grades, he will help her break out of her shell and get her crush’s attention.
