So already, immediately into the story (we're talking first-page basis)- there was that lack of context and drive, which made it hard to want to keep going. It was just a lot of brooding, and hiding it from each other that they had feelings- and then BAM, the sudden switch, where everything's suddenly fine.

It happens that her best friend, a manwhore who has been in love with her since they met, comes back to town, and she is gonna ask him to take her virginity. I just felt like I was missing something- because although the writing wasn't necessarily bad, the story was just really surface-level. Livy: The protagonist, a shy virgin who has been stuck in the friend-zone with her best friend Cole for years.Literally, the heroine has an "impurity list" of sexual goals she wants to accomplish by the end of the summer, as well as another goal of getting over her longtime love for her best friend (hero). However, Cole’s reaction is not what she expects, and Livy starts to question if she’s misread him all along. But when a person is clearly going through hell, and has laid their heart wide open for you, and you know good and well what you want from them, it is not okay for you to make them jump through hoops. After Livvy and Cole have sex he says some of the worst shit and when they talk about it a few days later his dumb ass blames his parent's marriage and thinks he could never be her for his stupid actions and for sleeping around and bringing girls around her.

All we saw was a lot of already existing, unexplainable feelings for each other (they were legitimately already in love with one another when the book started). Until we share a kiss that makes the world stand still, and I begin to wonder…maybe I’ve misread him all along. Thats why I’ve fallen for them 3 times already however they always go back to the same issue and throw all the progress the heroine has made throughout the book to the trash by the end of it.I saw a tiktok of someone recommending this book and i was about to comment how much i dislike her books and that this one is trash and then i check the username, IT WAS THE AUTHORS ACCOUNT, thank god I didn’t say anything. She enjoys exploring the complexities of human relationships, and her books often feature strong, independent heroines and alpha males who are not afraid to show their vulnerable side.

It’s an awakening story, a girl realizing her strict evangelical Christian upbringing has stifled her and not in a good or realistic way.All her books have these absolutely horrible male leads and the heroines always put a front that they are “independent” of them are wont take their shit, in her books they point out every reason why the relationship wont and shouldn’t work and also how horrible the male lead is and somehow by 80% this is all forgotten. I genuinely don't know anything about him aside from his daddy issues and weird, unexplainable infatuation with the heroine.

She’s strong and resilient, but most importantly she’s becoming herself, which is all anyone ever hopes to accomplish.While some reviewers criticize the book for being too male-gaze-y, the sensitive portrayal of Cole’s protective nature towards Livy adds depth to their relationship. It is a romantic novel that explores sexual liberation and the consequences of being raised in purity culture. Just because someone is a virgin and doesn't have any sexual experience doesn't mean they're fragile glass.
