About this deal

While you’re learning about planets, drop by the surface of the moon to explore for awhile. We’re not saying you have to use this cool glow-in-the-dark kinetic sand, but why wouldn’t you? Cut apart a plastic bin and use with layers of kinetic sand to show how Earth’s layers form geographical features, like mountains, as the tectonic plates move. Fill up a small plastic bin with Kinetic Beach Sand or regular Kinetic Sand. Both are excellent materials to use, though we prefer the beach sand because it’s more coarse and easier to clean off toys.

The Kinetic Sand Dig & Demolish set is perfect for creative and imaginative play and makes a great gift for kids aged 3 and up Kinetic Sand is made from natural sand and is wheat, gluten and casein free, making it safe for play Build, dig and crush Kids LOVE to play with kinetic sand, but it can be pretty pricey. Here’s a cheap, easy to make and edible version that you can make with your kids! I also added some blue glass gems from the dollar store and some aquarium grass from the pet store to my sensory bin. You can even make it colorful and make rainbow kinetic sand! Next, pour your kinetic sand in your sensory table along with some plastic dinosaurs and invite your little learners to start exploring!Kinetic sand activities are just more fun than a dry-erase board! This is an easy, reusable way for kids to practice basic writing. Dig into the soothing nature of kinetic sand activities by creating that ultimate calming space: a zen garden. If your mixture is too dry, try adding a bit more water and stir some more. Continue adding water and stirring until the desired consistency is reached. I also consulted with three experts to learn more about dinosaurs and dinosaur toys. I interviewed W. J. T. Mitchell, Gaylord Donnelley distinguished service professor at the University of Chicago and author of The Last Dinosaur Book: The Life and Times of a Cultural Icon; Ali Mierzejewski, editor-in-chief at The Toy Insider; and David Fastovsky Ph.D, professor emeritus at the University of Rhode Island.

This sensory bin looks simple to set up, and it is, but it is a great activity to work on fine motor development. Pushing the sand to mold it, allows the muscles to get stronger. Adding the sand into the eggs works on eye-hand coordination and development of those little fingers and more gentle movements of the hand and fingers. All super important tasks for early writing skills. Which came first—the dinosaur or the egg? We can’t say for sure, but your kids will have fun learning about their favorite prehistoric beasts with this activity. Most dinosaur toys today are more accurate than toys from the past. However, there is still room for improvement. Dr. Fastovsky would like to see more diversity in dinosaur toys as well as more accurate depictions so that more dinosaurs include feathers and different colors than we’re used to seeing. Additionally, he explains that “many of the bipeds (The T. rexes of the world and their relatives) are posed in uncomfortable kangaroo-like positions that were long ago (like 100 years long) rejected as natural poses.” What To Get A Kid Obsessed With Dinosaurs? Learning compound words? Grab a free set of printable cards at the link below, then match and stamp or write the words in kinetic sand.

Add plastic ants to kinetic sand to create a mound of busy activity. Use it to learn about how ant colonies work or just have fun playing with the ants. I ended up using a total of 1/2 of a cup of water, and the consistency was perfect. Dinosaur Sensory Bin with Kinetic SandThis one is sure to keep them busy for awhile! Bury a variety of items in the kinetic sand and let them see what they can find. Younger kids can just dig to see what turns up; have older kids write a list of what they find as they go. Bonus points for upcycling a plastic wipes container with gold spray paint to turn it into a treasure chest! If you have Dinosaur-shaped sand molds you can add those too. These were found at the dollar store and although they don’t work very well with sand, they are amazing for Kinetic sand.
