About this deal

Having children has made my sister, Petra, and me even closer. Her daughter is a year older than Sophia, so it’s nice to have that person to just say: “Is this normal?” I also have a 62-year-old half-sister called Deborah from Dad’s first marriage but I don’t know her at all. I don’t have anything against her, but our paths have never crossed. You’re not allowed to explode like a volcano, but you will and you do. Hopefully, it’s seldom, but still, you will. And guess what? It’s normal, natural, and I’m here to tell you that as long as there are no emotional or physical injuries involved, it becomes the stuff of family folklore. Another lovely gift and one I’ve tried out myself, the Afternoon Tea for two voucher from Buyagift can be used at locations all across the country. Point is, people react to suddenly not having the cash flow they’re used to, in weird ways. Like when it’s three days before payday and you don’t want to go into your overdraft, but you metaphorically pee into the wind and go on a blow-out anyway.

Remember when mom lost her shit that time you spilled your milkshake all over the couch?!” your adult children may someday lament with a giggle, remembering the incident well, and thank god they think it’s funny now, because it wasn’t funny then. At least, it wasn’t funny for you. I was 23 or 24 when my parents divorced and it was awful. I think the older you are, the worse it is, because you have had all those Christmases and birthdays together and all those amazing memories. Maybe the younger you are, the more oblivious you are and you just get used to how things are. Suddenly, I felt so guilty about who I should see for Christmas. I felt totally torn. I said it wasn’t enough and I already told her I wanted the rice. She said she cant read my mind and that I should’ve told her I wanted ONLY rice and no pasta. I said I couldn’t read her mind, if she asked I assumed she would leave it for me, but I’m adjusting myself by not causing a fuss and making more.

lose (one's) shit

He’s 7yo and it’s the first time I’ve ever been absolutely furious with him. I’ve just split up from Dh and with that and the stress of trying to keep my elderly parents safe and well I’m just done in and exhausted emotionally and physically. You scream at your kids. They run for the hills as your swirling tornado of emotion overcomes their physical space. I find emotional processing really hard, so it was a massive step for me to even be able to feel that sadness and recognise it as such. Try and stay calm. She is a child and you do not have to argue with her. Remember it takes 2 to argue. Just refuse to engage. I can’t take care of three kids, work from home, take care of the house, and keep any kind of sanity.

She snatched up the cooler, stomped into the driveway, and threw it down. My brother, sister, and I watched in awe (and growing alarm) from the safety of a closed screened door. Mommy had never behaved this way before, and we were frightened. When mine started I would change the tone of my voice and say that it was not acceptable behaviour. I'd tell her I was going to count to 5 and she would stop/ do what I asked or there would be a consequence. Always told her the consequence - you will have the toy taken away until tomorrow/ you will go to bed / I will not read you a bedtime story etc. Similar to above but I irrationally am a bit pissed off because when her dog died, I was supportive because I knew how devastated she was. But nothing though she knows my mum was in hospice, and then texted me about something else, I didn't reply The best bit is, that if your mum decides they’d rather have another experience – for example an all you can eat sushi experience perhaps…– then they can change up their voucher and pay or bank the difference. The vouchers have long expiry dates too so there’s more than enough time to rustle up a babysitter!
