There are proposals to redevelop the former Royal Naval Armaments Depot at Broughton Moor into a mix of uses that would provide economic, environmental and community benefits for the region.

Covering an area of 425ha, the former Royal Naval Armaments Depot (RNAD) at Broughton Moor is the largest brownfield site in the North West. There are proposals to redevelop the site for a mix of uses that would provide economic, environmental and community benefits for the region. The draft masterplan seeks to create a forest park setting where activities such as golf, paintballing, coarse fishing and sporting events will be complemented by commercial uses such as forest lodges, high quality hotel accommodation, education facilities and tourist attractions. Derwent Forest’s unique selling point is its harmony with the natural environment - the existing wildlife is being protected, the natural tree cover and vegetation is being enhanced and all developments will adhere to sustainable development principles.
