Following the closure of Bold Power Station in the early 1990s, St Helens Council has created a 16ha residential development set within an 18ha landscape and open space comprising lakes, woodland, wildlife areas and footpath, cycleway and bridleway networks.

The structural landscape framework was developed as an integral component of the development master plan. The new tree planting screens adjacent land; creates an attractive setting to open spaces, water bodies, watercourses and pedestrian movement networks; provides linkages with adjacent green space encourages ecological biodiversity within an area of historical low ecological value; and creates an interconnected network of green routes to enhance the character of the built environment.
