About this deal

The Dohm Uno doesn’t use a speaker to play recordings. Instead, it houses a real fan with options to adjust the tone and volume. As for the speaker quality, the sounds are really clear. The melodies are crisp, and the nature options sound realistic and relaxing to listen to. There was no speaker distortion that I could tell, even on louder volumes. Rechargeable internal battery The buttons on the Dreamegg D11 are very easy to use. They are large enough to be easy to find in the dark, clearly labeled, and you don’t need to read the instructions to work out how to operate it. Here you can see that the internal battery and lanyard allows you to hang the Dreamegg D11 in the room, and doesn’t need to be within cable distance of a power outlet: Easy to use There are eight themes—body scan, breathing, movement, visualizations, cardiac coherence, napping, relaxing music, and nature sounds—each theme has eight sessions all available in either eight or 20-minute lengths. The visualizations theme has different stories for the male and female voices. My only quibble is that I wish you could let the sleep sounds play continuously.

I also like the fact that they have separate buttons for the sound choice and volume. Some devices combine them, and you have to either tap or long hold, which I find irritating personally. So for me, the interface of the Dreamegg is just about perfect. Sleep timers Note: If you're buying for a child, the American Academy of Pediatrics warns parents to keep sound machines to around 50 decibels and farther than 200 centimeters (6.5 feet) from where your baby sleeps.

The manufacturer says this is a sound machine both kids and adults will use. However, I think that with five (arguably six) of the sounds clearly made for children, there just isn’t much variety left for adults to listen to. In terms of sound selection, it has two white noises, three nature sounds, and the Dohm sound, which is a recording of the YogaSleep Dohm’s real fan. And that brings me to the second point – the price of the LectroFan Evo (and the LectroFan Classic for that matter). For a long time, the price seemed quite stable, but it’s been fluctuating a lot in the last two to three years.

Having said that, smart speakers, smartphone apps, and household appliances like fans can work well if you don’t want to buy a separate white noise machine. If you’d like to find out more about alternatives like those, take a look at my guide to choosing a white noise machine. In the photo above, you can see 12 white noise machines I tested before writing this review. The photo is darker than usual so you can compare the nightlight feature that five of them have. As it turns out, there are more important differences than similarities, which is good to understand if you’re not sure which one will suit you more. But if you’re looking for a good sound machine to play to your children, I think the Dreamegg D11 is the better option because of the nightlight, the additional sounds intended for kids, and the smaller size. In table 2 below, you can see the way the white noise machines are powered, and the sounds they play. Note that many of them include a USB cable, but not all come with an AC adaptor to plug it into. However, you can use the USB cable with any existing USB outlet in your home, as well as devices like a laptop. Machine The fair sound is on a 30 second loop, and basically just consists of several people talking at once. It sounds more like a market or busy café than a fair. And every 30 seconds, someone says in Spanish “no puede” which means he, she or it can’t. The sound quality is excellent, with a speaker that produces louder maximum volume than the others in this list. I measured it at 77 decibels on a white noise setting from a meter away. The incremental volume range is particularly beneficial if you need to match higher levels of external noise like traffic or loud music when you want to sleep, study, or work. Furthermore, its sounds are dynamically generated, providing a continuous, non-looping noise.

There are so many different sounds in this machine, white noise, fan sounds, ocean, brook, and more. The constant shushing sound can help the baby to fall asleep and stay asleep. Happy Parenting! Another unique feature is its nursery calibration setting, which ensures a safe volume level if you’d like to use it in an infant’s bedroom. I really like how it looks, and it’s enough to illuminate a bedroom so you can see in the dark. The nightlight can be dimmed as well, which is a great feature and useful if the maximum brightness is too much. The nature sounds all seem pretty good to me, without jarring looping which is always a good thing. I didn’t like the fair sound though, which I’ll mention more about in the criticisms below. Good speaker quality and volumeThe Dohm Uno is the second white noise machine on my list that contains a real fan. It’s a no-frills device, with just one button used to switch the internal fan on or off. The fan produces a reliably constant sound that’s soothing to listen to when falling asleep, relaxing, or studying. As well as having some relaxing deep pink and brown noise, there are favorites like rain, sea waves, and birds. There are also a few for kids, such as a lullaby, music box, and heartbeat.

The Yogasleep Travel Mini lives up to its name by being the smallest and lightest white noise machine I’ve used. Its mini size, internal rechargeable battery, and nightlight make it an ideal travel companion. The Snooz also comes with a companion smartphone app for iPhones and Android devices. The app provides extra features like Bluetooth control, daily timer settings, and nightlight brightness adjustments. Keep in mind, though, that these additional functions are only accessible via the app. But overall, the nightlight is a great feature. It’s even better than the Snooz, which is a much more expensive white noise machine with a nightlight. Small and portable design The D11 has 11 sounds including a fan, lullaby music, and even a busy restaurant-like sound with muffled chatter. It's small but can get quite loud, and the swirl design works as a night light. There are 30-, 60-, and 90-minute timers, or you can leave it running continuously. It charges via USB-C, and if you use a timer, the battery should last you for a few nights. I left it on for nearly 12 hours in my office and it was still going the next day. The specs say the speaker is 3W with 5W output. I tested it on a loud white noise setting, and it came out around 85 dB – just a few short of the D3, which hovered around 87 dB.

While it does include a power adaptor, it can alternatively be powered by 4 x AA batteries, a rare trait amongst white noise machines, which mostly rely on USB cables or power adaptors. The Dreamegg D3 Pro is an excellent all-rounder white noise machine. There are 29 sound options to choose from, including 15 nature/relaxing sounds, seven types of white noise, and seven fan sounds. On the other hand, others might appreciate the fact that it can’t get too loud. If you’re worried about playing white noise too loudly to a baby or infant, for example, the Dohm Uno might be a good choice. The sound loops are around a minute long – a decent length for such a compact device. However, the speaker’s small size may not deliver deep bass or sufficiently loud volume for certain sounds, such as brown noise or thunderstorms. The Homedics Sound Spa Rejuvenate has one unique feature warranting its inclusion in this review – the capacity to run on batteries.
