About this deal

Upscaling of HD sources is a touch disappointing given the promises of ‘Deep Learning’ intervention, leaving things looking a little soft and undetailed versus the sort of results we are now accustomed to getting from the likes of Samsung, LG and Sony. The C845K’s upscaling at least doesn’t look noisy or ‘rough’, though, so we would say it remains good enough for such an affordable TV capable of such heroics with native 4K. The C635K also runs the AiPQ 2.0 processor and is able to hit a peak brightness of 500 nits, which is actually slightly higher than the 450 nits the C645K is rated at. Like the two 2022 models above, the C635K runs the Android TV operating system rather than Google TV.

For the TCL QM8 I used the Calman ISF workflow, along with the TV’s advanced picture menu settings, to calibrate the image for best accuracy with SDR and HDR sources. Once done, I watched a range of reference scenes on 4K Blu-ray discs that I’ve gathered after years of TV and projector testing to assess the TV’s performance, as well as new Dolby Vision-encoded material streamed from sources like Netflix and HBO Max. Experience colors that come alive with TCL 65 Inch TVs. Our advanced technology enhances color accuracy and contrast, ensuring that every hue is vibrant and captivating. From the subtlest tones to the brightest highlights, our TVs deliver visuals that are breathtakingly vivid.

Ultra Wide Viewing Angle

Comparing the C735K with its successor is a similar story, with the 2022 model using the older IPQ 2.0 processor and offering inferior display brightness. Only the 98in C735K has local dimming and all models use less powerful pairs of 10W speakers. The C735K is still capable of 144Hz VRR, however, and has the same number of HDMI 2.1 ports (four), all of which support ALLM. Gamers thinking the C845K’s startling spec-to-price ratio might make it an exciting potential gaming monitor will be pleased to hear that it uses a 120Hz panel, while two of its four HDMI ports are capable of receiving 4K/120Hz feeds from the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and sufficiently high-spec PCs. In fact, the screen is even capable of handling 144Hz PC titles. TCL has been pretty forthright in recent times about its belief that LED – especiallyMini LED– is the future of TV, rather thanOLED, and the C845K is the brand's latest attempt to put its money where its mouth is.

This fact does bring us quite early on to the C845K’s biggest picture weakness, though. Namely, a slightly cloudy look that can sometimes appear with shots and scenes that contain a bold mixture of very bright and very dark content, as the local light controls wrestle with achieving the best balance of local contrast and HDR brightness. All of these qualities combine to make an image that is brilliantly solid and has a lovely three-dimensional feel. On top of all of this, detail is also outstanding, with clothing textures, skin imperfections and complex patterns all rendered crisply but without artificial definition. It looks accurate from almost all angles. Colors desaturate slightly when viewed from the far sides, but it’s minor and the sweet spot is otherwise wide enough.

Virtualized 3D sound

Picture quality is refined, subtle and plenty detailed, and that goes for games as well as movies and TV shows. Some highlights are a little brighter than the C2's, and there's a healthy amount of shadow detail throughout. The sound is still a poor relation to the picture, but that's easily fixed with a decent soundbar. If you want gaming on a big screen, this is the TV for you. Overall, your choice of a TCL TV may come down to where you live. In the US there are plenty of TVs we’ve reviewed well, and TCL has built up an understanding of the market and what US viewers want from their televisions. The TCL 65P639K features voice control, allowing you to control the TV with your voice. You can use the built-in microphone on the remote control to search for content, adjust the volume, and control other functions. The voice control feature is responsive and accurate, making it a convenient way to navigate the TV’s features.

Engage in immersive entertainment with TCL 65 Inch TVs. Step into the heart of the action, whether it's cinematic storytelling or gaming excitement. Our TVs create an experience that's both captivating and engaging, enveloping you in content that feels larger than life. It's also a great TV for gamers, supporting all variable refresh rate (VRR) technologies for a nearly tear-free gaming experience from any VRR-enabled source. Its four HDMI ports have HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for 4k @ 120Hz gaming from a recent console or gaming PC. Ultimately, you can't beat an OLED if you use your TV mostly in a dark room. If you love this TV but wish it were more vibrant, consider the more expensive LG G3 OLED. The G3 is one of the brightest OLEDs on the market and is certainly brighter than the C3, but it's not worth the price difference for most people. Google TV is the smart interface of choice for the QM8 Class. (Image credit: Future) TCL QM8 TV review: smart TV & menusSound quality could be improved – may require external speakers or soundbar for optimal performance. For the last few years you've had to decide between the contrast of OLEDs and the brightness and color saturation of LED-LCDs. Now you don't have to – the TCL 6-Series R635 has the best of both, making it the best TCL TV you can buy. In terms of design, the TV’s designed in a new way to hide your cables and the nearly bezel-less design of the TV is fairly versatile. The legs of the TV can either be placed close together to fit on a smaller table or stand, or can be attached to the outside corners of the TV to give it some more stability. When I test TVs, my first step is to spend a few days using it for casual viewing for break-in and to assess the out-of-box picture presets. The next step is to select the most accurate-looking preset (typically labeled Movie or Cinema) and measure the white balance (grayscale), gamma, and color point accuracy using Portrait Displays’ Calman color calibration software. The resulting measurements provide Delta-E values (the margin of error between the test pattern source and what’s shown on-screen) for each category, and they allow for an assessment of the TV’s overall accuracy. Due to availability issues, the TCL 5 Series/S555 2022 QLED and Hisense A6/A65K were replaced with the Hisense U6/U6K and TCL S4/S450G, respectively.

The TCL 65P639K offers a range of connectivity options, including three HDMI ports, a USB port, and an Ethernet port. This makes it easy to connect your gaming console, Blu-ray player, or other devices to the TV. It also features built-in Wi-Fi, allowing you to connect to your home network and stream content wirelessly. Step into a realm of excellence with the TCL 65 Inch display. Each frame is a testament to precision and clarity, immersing you in a world of captivating visuals. Whether it's your favorite movies, sports, or gaming adventures, every detail is presented with stunning clarity. The C845 also utilises quantum dot technology to enhance colour richness, contrast and realism, while there is also support for various HDR formats – including Dolby Vision IQ – to make sure that picture is as crisp as possible no matter what you’re watching. Perhaps as a result of TCL’s efforts to keep the clouding so faint and vague, though, it can sometimes spread further away from the edges of a particularly bright object than we might have anticipated from a TV that has 576 dimming zones at its disposal. Having said that, the resulting sometimes slightly misty-looking pictures are far less likely to distract you than smaller but brighter and more defined areas of blooming would. Other TCL sets, like the DP648 in the UK, use a much more basic Linux OS. Most new TCL TVs, though, come with the same Android OS – in an attempt to standardise across the board – which is a good all-rounder smart platform also used by Sony and Hisense.

TCL’s top mini-LED TV is a bright big-screen value

Due to availability issues, we replaced the LG C2 OLED with the LG C3 OLED as our 'Best Upper Mid-Range 65-Inch TV'. Furthermore, the newer Sony A95L OLED replaced the Sony A95K OLED. The C3 retains the elegant design of the C2 but adds a new processor for even better visuals and more advanced audio upmixing. The webOS 23 operating system is simpler than last year's version too, and easier to navigate, and it brings a more sophisticated Game Optimiser menu complete with a dedicated sound sub-menu.
