The hood does an excellent job of mitigating flare without obstructing the OVF like some of the large petal hoods do. It’s a great walk-around and casual-use lens, especially when paired with Fuji’s compact XE or X-Pro cameras. I also know there are a lot more 50mm equivalent choices out there these days for the Fujifilm system as well. maximum magnification and 28cm closest focusing distance, you can isolate subjects and achieve a minimalist representation of a grand structure.

The weakness of this lens is the close focus ( including focus at the minimum distance) wide open f/1. What’s also important is that I was able to bump up the exposure for this photo without introducing a ton of noise. Ghosting ( hence an impression of softness) is very observable when wide open at close distance especially in high contrast scenes such as white letters on dark background. In general, this lens produces images that exhibit rich and saturated colors, while maintaining a natural and pleasing tonal balance.

Yes, I totally agree – haven’t taken mine off my XT3 either, and could quite happily shoot with nothing else from now on haha!
