About this deal

There is a new level of detail to the image, crisp edges and defined features, from close up skin texture to overhead views of landscapes. Clarity/Detail: Dawn of the Dead features a new 4K scan from the original negative with inserts from the 2K digital intermediate for the unrated footage. At startup, each disc goes straight to a menu screen with full-motion clips, music playing in the background and the usual options along the bottom. British label Second Sight has dated its upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of the 4K restoration of George A. He’s honest about some weaker effects (largely the blood colour) and talks about how his work advanced from this on to Day of the Dead.

The 4K Ultra HD limited edition box set comes with a treasure trove of goodies and a region-locked Blu-ray disc containing tons of new bonus content while each UHD disc features separate commentary tracks. It's a horror masterpiece that uses the horde of mindless walking dead as a stark, poignant satire on modern consumerism, but what continues to interest me most of the film four decades later is society's insatiable hunger for purchased goods. Missing from Anchor Bay’s legendary 4-Disc Ultimate Edition DVD release is a Monroeville Mall commercial and tour video, the 1989 version of Document of the Dead, several still galleries, additional radio spots, a 28-page mini-comic book (which was included in the set as swag), and five Easter eggs: a short interview with Tom Savini about a practical joke he once pulled; a short interview with Gaylen Ross; a testimonial from a Buddist Monk; an interview with Christine Forrest about how she met George; an interview with Greg Nicotero on how Tom Savini created the helicopter zombie; and an interview with John Harrison, the screwdriver zombie. They can't seem to help themselves from reverting back to the capitalistic belief that owning stuff provides comforting protection and signifies a well-valued life even as civilization collapses all around them and just outside their front doors. It treads a lot of the same ground as the other features but it’s nice to have Romero alone talking about the film.In setting the film in a mall and watching how possessive and corrupted the characters get over their horde of ‘stuff’, Romero adds a healthy dose of satire surrounding consumerism.

Memories of Monroeville: A tour of the mall – New 30 minute feature with Michael Gornick, Tom Savini, Tom Dubensky and Taso Stavrakis revisiting the famous mall. Even though he doesn’t stick to the more methodical stylings of Romero, Carpenter, or Argento, Snyder still pays homage to the previously mentioned artists by interjecting in several hints and nods through various scenes and musical choices.

Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more. The exaggerated red blood looks astonishingly yucky, while neon signs within the mall have a fresh luminosity. Grain is light-moderate to moderate, varying a bit from shot to shot, but it’s always natural-looking. Low bass isn't particularly noteworthy, but it's adequate and plenty for providing the action and music some weight. Shadows are more gray looking overall and they’re also a bit crushed, lacking the truly deep blacks and bold highlights of the other 4K presentations.
