About this deal

As you can see from the image above, he’s again made from precious few parts – 8 in all, if you include the sculpted part of his base. He’s another very easy miniature to assemble, and whilst ours arrived with a few mould lines (you can faintly see these above) these are pretty easy to clean up. Compared to the old-school, pretty much monopause terminators of varying colours, chapters, and role which, with the exception of the Blood Angels Terminator Assault Squad, had all the poise of someone trying to walk having soiled themselves, these Terminators are sublime. Spectacular from every angle and oozing character (and no small amount of menace) these miniatures look every bit as awesome as you could want them to be. All of the minis in Leviathan are completely new, though there is a strong feeling of updated classics running through the selection. The Ballistus Dreadnought is the Primaris upgrade to the old lascannon and missile launcher-armed Dreadnought, bringing it in line with the melee-flavoured Brutalis and all-rounder Redemptor models, while the Sternguard Veterans and assorted Terminator-armoured models are new and improved versions of Space Marine stalwarts. The Terminator squad in particular embody an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy and feel very much like the minis we know and love, just upscaled to fit in with the Primaris Space Marines of the past few years. It’s less pronounced on the Tyranid side, who have a lot more brand new beasties, but the Screamer-Killer and Termagants both have that feeling of just being the way they should have always been. The Tyranids have descended upon the world of Oghram and it’s up to you as a buyer of the Leviathan box to save it – or destroy it.The box contains 25 Space Marine models, 47 Tyranid models, a brand-new transfer sheet, an exclusive Leviathan book that collects lore, core rules, the Tyrannic War Crusade supplement, and the Chapter Approved Leviathan mission cards. Leviathan Space Marines unboxing The Leviathan's oversized Atomantic Reactor allows it to bear weapons more powerful than other classes of Dreadnought, and also powers reinforced energy fields that surpass those developed for the Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought. Because this review is going to be massive, we’ve decided to skip over the unboxing section that we’d normally do in favour of ensuring we can give due attention to all the various components within the Leviathan box. The Box

Magnificence - The Magnificence was the Command Leviathan on which Captain-General Iskhandrian of Atraxia prosecuted the Kalidar War against the Orks of WAAAGH! Gratzdakka. The interior of the Magnificence has been described as lavishly furnished, with precious wood panelling and long tables to hold banquets. While a Leviathan is commonly described as a mobile fortress, it is clearly not an impregnable one, as during one of the general's banquets, Ork Kommandoz managed to infiltrate the vehicle and slay several of the guests. While it is generally agreed that the assassination attempt was directed at Captrain-General Iskhandrian himself, the actions of the Tempestus Scions known as the Paramount Guard ensured that the general never truly was at risk. The Magnificence seems to have been damaged on Kalidar as it was not fielded during the follow-up campaign, the Geratomran Reconquest. It’s ultimately no skin off their nose, whilst losing such arrangements are devastating for us, especially after all the blood, sweat and tears from us that’s gone into getting into these positions in the first place. We are not a hyper-successful brand with millions of followers who companies would sell their souls to work with; we have to choose our battles with exceptional care.

The Infantry

Hrimthursar Arn Therod - Therod was a Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnought of the Space Wolves Legion's Fourth Great-Company. Arn Therod was renowned even amongst the bitter ranks of the Hrimthursar for his grim demeanour and unremitting wrath, Therod was present for the Breaking of the Acropolis Magna's gates and the slaughter that soon followed. Therod systematically slaughtered the members of the Prosperine Spireguard for hours on end, their weapons proving little more than an annoyance against the mighty Dreadnoughts hull. As with all Space Wolves Legion Dreadnoughts, Therod's hull was covered with decorative inscriptions and designs, mostly commemorating past deeds and victories. One design of note was the Hagalaz rune inscribed upon the Dreadnought's left greave, a mark of the Hrimthursar, the most hated of the Sons of Ymir, the given name for the Space Wolves Dreadnought cadres. The cinematic shot, featuring the ‘Eavy Metal Studio’s work on all the brand-new miniatures, shows off the Leviathan box at its absolute best. A horde of biomass-hungry Tyranids from Hive Fleet Leviathan descend upon a defensive line of Ultramarines led by the impressive new Captain in Terminator Armour. It’s a new Edition, so you know what that means – a whole box full of new plastic models, ready for you to unleash on your opponents. In 10th Edition we’ve got (surprise) Space Marines on one side and (actual surprise) Tyranids on the other, pitting ceremite, boltgun and flamer against a monstrous horde of bio-bugs. I love it. It shoes a different side to the Space Marines faction: Warhammer 40,000 is satire; there are no good guys, and this battle-maddened lunatic is testament to that. No one in their right mind takes on a horde of Tyranids armed with two daggers (well, three if you count the one embedded in the dead gribbly under his boot).

Wielding a combi-weapon and two combat blades, this Phobos-armoured Lieutenant can infiltrate ahead of the main Space Marine force, sowing discord among his enemies and disrupting their battle lines. Sternguard Veteran Squad When it was first previewed at Warhammer Fest, its appearance divided fans. Some, who saw it as an obvious homage to the original Dreadnought but Primaris-ified were all for it. Others, who saw it as little more than the chassis for the original Dread but slapped onto a pair of Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought legs were less enthused. One thing is certain: each race thrives on war, and there remains the possibility that if the Tyranids emerge victorious, the Imperium shall have to face a threat far greater than before, as in a victory, unlike other races, Tyranids effectively lose no military strength or resources, their casualties and still living warrior strains reabsorbed by invading Hive Ships along with the remains of the conquered worlds. Thus every victory has no repercussions, only benefits. But, dear reader, of course they can. And the vanguard of that fresh nightmare arrives in this very box!

Yet Kryptman still had loyal allies within the Deathwatch, and incepted a plan to halt Leviathan without the loss of further Human life. When a Genestealer-infested space hulk drifted from the Warp, members of the Deathwatch loyal to Kryptman captured a brood in stasis. Using the brood of captured live Genestealers, the Inquisitor engineered a Tyranid invasion within the Ork-held Octarius System, very close to Leviathan's advance. The crowded Ork cities, so teeming with life, were the source of a huge Orkish infestation, and soon drew the entirety of Leviathan into the tight cluster of Ork star systems known as the Ork Empire of Octarius. The plan worked, and both races are now thoroughly involved with destroying each other in what has become known as the Octarius War. On top of this, you’ll also find a construction booklet to help you build your miniatures and a decal sheet for the Space Marine force. Read more about the books and cards in the box here: Librarian ( Epistolary • Codicier • Lexicanium • Primaris Librarian • Vanguard Librarian) • Chaplain ( Reclusiarch • Primaris Chaplain • Judiciar) • Apothecary ( Primaris Apothecary • Apothecary Biologis • Helix Adept) • Techmarine Before the main hive fleet force lands, vanguard organisms like Von Ryan’s Leapers often embed themselves on the hive fleet’s target planet. These ambush-hunters lie in wait, avoiding detection until they can do as much damage as possible. Termagants You’ve been waiting for months, and it’s finally here: the tenth Edition of 40k. Promising a simplified (but not necessary simple) rules framework, more clarity than ever, and a complete overhaul of unit rules, this new edition is poised to be the best one yet, taking everything learned over the last three years of 9th edition and giving us the tightest rules yet.
