About this deal

The mission? Help Ganymede, Zeus’s cup-bearer, retrieve his lost goblet before it falls into the wrong hands. You see, one sip from it can turn a mortal into a god, and Zeus would not be pleased with that result. Can Percy, Grover, and Annabeth find the precious cup in time? And if they do, will they be able to resist its special power?

This is meant to be a story about the original trio, Percy, Annabeth and Grover, so most of the story revolves around them. You may hear little hints about what is going on with other characters in Percy’s universe, but for the most part, it’s just the O.G. crew. Whatever else you take from this post, we should be able to agree that bullying and harassing a child online is inexcusably wrong. As strong as Leah is, as much as we have discussed the potential for this kind of reaction and the intense pressure this role will bring, the negative comments she has received online are out of line. They need to stop. Now."Before you have the chalice, it is recommended to collect 10 Conjured Cocoas ahead of time, to make it easier to obtain the Sweet Chalice. The stakes are not high at all in this book but the fun is still there. There is no imminent danger to the world but maybe to Percy's college applications there is. We see the OG trio unite and it's like they were never apart. Grover, Annabeth and Percy make anything fun. Some of the things they mentioned were clearly meant for nostalgic purposes (I wish they would've included the dam joke). Annabeth's Yankees Cap is revealed to give the wearer an uncomfortable sensation while it's being used which Percy suspects is the reason that Annabeth doesn't use it too much. Annabeth tells Percy that this is because all power has a price, even invisibility. The cap's effects are also shown to be limited for the first time, only making Percy invisible to spirits and minor gods, but at best looking unimportant to the major gods such as the Olympians. Let's not forget that the reason Percy wants to get into New Rome University is because he loves Annabeth and wants to go to college with her. This man is willing to be trolled by the gods over and over just to be with her. (No wonder middle school me made such high standards.) This part had me actually screaming:

This book is dedicated to Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Sava Jeffries, the stars of the Disney+ series. This means Mount Olympus is virtually unguarded, so Percy and an army of young demigods must stop the Lord of Time. All the while, the long-awaited prophecy surrounding Percy’s sixteenth birthday unfolds. This is a reference to The Return of the King when Frodo gets to Mount Doom with the One Ring, which makes him invisible like Annabeth's Yankees Cap does to Percy, and claims the Ring as his rather than destroying it. You know you’ve been a demigod too long when you’re flushed out of your school straight into the Atlantic Ocean and you’re not even surprised.”

Nope. Middle grade sensibility is where I live, friends. Yes, Percy is older, and so his situation is not the same as when he was twelve. He sounds a bit older in this book. He is thinking about his life in college and beyond. But the tone is still the same, and the content is no more risqué than in the original series. I want the books to continue being suitable for middle grade readers, though readers of all ages are welcome! He's a golden drachma if I've ever known one. I can't wait to see where his next search for a college letter will take him. Chalice is meant to be a standalone for now. It was originally one of three ideas I had for Percy’s senior year adventures, so it’s possible I could write the other two at some point in the future. That really depends on what my schedule ends up looking like in the next few years. As you probably know, the film and TV adaptations have been consuming a great deal of my time over the last two years. In the Barnes and Noble Exclusive Edition, the remaining letters of recommendation are shown to be from Apollo, Delphin and Aristaeus.More news soon, and thanks as always to my terrific readers. It has been a thrill to write in Percy’s voice again, and a great honor to know that these books have been part of your lives! I loved how our Wise Girl stayed true to her character. And Grover balancing the trio's chaos in his own innocent yet chaotic way. And I especially loved our Seaweed Brain, who was full of his usual sarcasm, foolishness, ready to battle and well being himself 🥹 First quest: the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, is missing his chalice. Not only is this embarrassing. It’s also a potential disaster, since any mortal who happens to drink from the cup will gain immortality. Percy, Annabeth and Grover have to find that chalice and return it to Ganymede before anyone realizes he lost it. These gods . . . they really need GPS tags on their magic items, don’t they? Other series, like the Kane Chronicles, Trials of Apollo, and Magnus Chase, don’t feature Percy at all. These books, however, are set in the same world. This means that names and places will be familiar.
